Dr. Steven Torrisi
Dr. Steven Torrisi is a senior research scientist in the Energy & Materials division at Toyota Research Institute (TRI). He works on a variety of first-principles simulations, materials informatics, and machine learning projects, including the development of new material representations and studying the problem of materials synthesis. In particular, Dr. Torrisi collaborates closely with various university groups on materials discovery and characterization efforts.
Prior to coming to TRI, Dr. Torrisi obtained his Ph.D. in physics at Harvard University, working in the group of Prof. Boris Kozinsky on the application of machine learning to accelerate molecular dynamics simulations. He holds a B.S. in physics and a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Rochester, where he was an Alan and Jane Handler scholar and a Barry Goldwater scholar. At Harvard, he was supported by a Pierce Fellowship, a Wallace-Noyes Fellowship, and a Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship.
Dr. Torrisi has a particular interest in mentorship, teaching, and communication alongside his scientific research pursuits.
