Dr. Ben Burchfiel

Senior Manager, Large Behavior Models

Dr. Ben Burchfiel is a senior manager in the Large Behavior Models division at Toyota Research Institute (TRI), where he leads the Multimodal Policy Learning and Data teams working to create state-of-the-art, general-purpose robots via AI foundation models trained at scale.

Dr. Burchfiel's work spans artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, robotics, and computer vision. His research has been presented at numerous venues, including Robotics: Science and Systems (RSS), the Conference on Robot Learning (CoRL), the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), the International Journal of Robotics Research (IJRR), the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, the International Conference on Robots and Intelligent Systems (IROS), and the International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR).

Dr. Burchfiel earned his B.S. in computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Ph.D. in computer science from Duke University, and was a postdoctoral researcher at Brown University.
